Brentford and Iranian midfielder Saman Ghoddos has certainly made an impact with the Bees since signing for the club back in 2020. Ghoddos had previously played for the likes of Östersunds FK and French side Amiens before signing along the dotted line at Brentford whilst they played their domestic football in the Championship.
The midfielder made 43 appearances in total for Brentford in the second-tier of English football, and he played his part for them in their promotion-winning campaign, as they edged out Swansea City in the final at Wembley Stadium. Ghoddos would have been keen to build on such an impressive first year with Brentford, but the club’s strengthening of the senior squad has seen him find regular game time hard to come by.
Brentford have gone from strength to strength in recent years, and are now playing in their third consecutive season in the Premier League, and they’ve caused plenty of the so-called ‘big teams’ in the top-flight a number of problems, especially on home soil. Thomas Frank’s side are ninth in the Premier League table heading into the weekend’s fixtures, and they’ll be eager to put together a strong run of form as we edge towards the festive period, which can prove to be make or break for some teams.

You would imagine that with the busy schedule coming up that Thomas Frank will rotate his first-team options at times, and that could present Ghoddos with the ideal opportunity to stake a claim for a regular starting spot in the Brentford team. It could potentially be his last chance to impress the Brentford boss, as the Iranian midfielder’s contract reaches a conclusion at the end of the 2023/24 season.
With Brentford already having strong options in similar positions, it seems like a tough ask for Ghoddos to extend his stay with the club beyond this season, and a move elsewhere could be the ideal opportunity for all parties involved. Ghoddos has shown his quality in attacking areas in the past, having netted 41 goals and provided 25 assists for Östersunds FK in the Swedish top-flight. Whereas with Brentford, he’s struggled to replicate that type of form in front of goal, having only scored six goals and provided nine assists from his 95 appearances for the club to date.
A move elsewhere is likely to be the case in the summer of 2024, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Ghoddos remains in English football and is willing to potentially drop into the Championship, as we’ve already seen his quality at that level, having played a key role in their promotion winning season in 2021.
